We made it across the pond! It was fairly uneventful. I say fairly because 9 hours is a long time to sit and someone very close to us had a gas problem…. It was special, but it went pretty quickly. We ate, watched movies, ate again and colored and I napped. My goodness they feed you well on British Airways flights. The coffee was wonderful! We also got to watch a beautiful sunrise as the plane touched down in London early this morning. There was a really long queue at the passport check, but it took almost no time at all. We had our bags and were waiting for our ride an hour after landing.
Once we got in the car to head to York and our b&b, I noticed that it didn’t feel like I had gone anywhere. Beside it being 20 degrees cooler here than it was in Texas when we left, everything looks pretty much the same. I guess freeways look the same everywhere! The driving on the left side of the road didn’t seem strange or particularly disconcerting. Everything is the same… yet different.
Cars are brighter and road signs are pretty colors too and very polite. Instead of YEILD signs, they have GIVE WAY signs. Instead of pop music, the loos have classical music playing in them. All of them. And on the plane we listened to a simply stunning recording of some Bach motets. I think I’m really going to like it here. There were little cottages right on the freeway. I thought these little places seemed surprised to be seen so close to a busy road when they had obviously been built in the country away from it all. Then there were the towers of beautiful churches in the country. They wanted to be seen and they were majestic. We will go back and look at them in more depth some time, I am sure. It was a nice trip to York and we had a wonderful lorry driver.
We are comfortably housed this evening! A new adventure begins tomorrow!
